QOTD: What is the oldest school in the world?

Last week we were discussing colonial America and how they educated their young.  Which promoted the question... What is the oldest school in the world?

The Student first pass guess was Oxford. A Google search brought back lots of data which lead us to   narrow the search to "universities" and "still in existence."

We found some information here:

Top 10 Oldest Universities in the World: Ancient Colleges

Wikipedia provide us with a list of oldest universities in continuous operation.

15 Oldest College in The World

The list varies because of definitions of continuous but Oxford does make the top 10 in each list.

QOTD:Why do Christians use the Fish symbol?

Ichthus / Fish Christian Symbol

 The Definition and Meaning of the Ichthus / Fish as a Catholic Christian Symbol Catholic Christian symbolism in art provides a clear graphic illustration which represents people or items of religious significance.

What is the definition and the meaning of the Ichthus / Fish symbol?
 Ichthus is the Greek word for fish (ΙΧΘΥΣ). The initials of the word Ichthus are also used as a Christian acronym of the following

Greek words:
 I=Jesus
Ch=Christ
Th=Theou(God's)
U=Uios(Son)
S=Soter (Savior)

Using the Ichthus acronym IChThUS means "Jesus Christ, God's Son, Savior"

Christians also use to draw one half in the sand and if the person completed it you knew they were a Christian.  It was a way to safely ID a fellow believer.

Kid Question of the Day #6: Who is that lady on the Stabucks symbol?

So today on my weekly post co-op Starbuck run Ironhide asked the following:

Who is that lady on the Stabucks symbol? Is it lady liberty?

So as we pull up to the drive-thru window and I ask our friendly Stabbuck partner the question of the day. He says roll down the window and I will explan all. (This guy, we will call him Derrick, is the best. He always has a smile and a natural joy about him even when the drive thru line is wrapped around the building and the machines are not working.)

"The name of the company Starbucks in based on a character from the book Moby-Dick, "Starbo," the name of a mining camp on Mount Rainier. Combining the Moby-Dick idea with "Starbo" resulted in the company being named for the Pequod's first mate, Starbuck.

The company logo is a two-tailed princess siren, not a mermaid. Because Seattle is a sailor's city and the marine inspired name of the company they need a symbol that means good luck."

Ironhide's response "Cool let's go read Moby Dick tonight."

Okay now I have some explaining to do. LOL

Kid Question of The Day: Who Invented Chewing Gum?

Ironhide (TS) ask hundreds of good questions daily. There are some that just stop you in your tracks and make you think "Yeah, why is that?". So in an attempt to capture these and possibly help other inquisitive six almost seven year olds I shall document "Kid Question of the Day."

Our reference sources shall be:
Askkids
Google Jr. aka SafeSearch

But for our question of the day.

Who Invented Chewing Gum?
"W.F. Semple of Mount Vernon, Ohio, patented chewing gum in 1869.
However, humans have been chewing various gums, resins and latex secretions of plants for thousands of years. Mastic gum has been chewed by Mediterranean peoples for thousands of years, and Native Americans chewed the resin from spruce trees. "
